When you have the automap open, you can still navigate as normal. This may
be helpful in quickly moving through a sector, but beware - you can't see
enemies in the automap.
Be sure to talk to computers and characters in the game more than once;
many of them will give you additional information, and may even have
different things to say as events play out.
Be on the lookout for secret doors. They will often look like just another
wall, but there is a subtle difference - they will be slightly inset from
the surrounding walls.
Combat
You can cycle forward in your weapon inventory by pressing the 7 key, and
cycle backwards by pressing the * key.
You can skip a turn by pressing the 9 key. This can be a helpful strategy
to get enemies to use their turn to move in front of you.
Health packs are not used automatically. Make sure to access them from
your inventory when your health runs low.
Try to use barrels to kill enemies that pass by them, but be sure not to
be next to the barrels yourself when they explode.
Some weapons work better against certain enemies than others.
Try not to let yourself get boxed in by multiple enemies. It can often be
strategically beneficial to back yourself into a doorway or other area where
there is only one entry point so that enemies can only get at you from the
front, one at a time.
The Arch Vile class of monsters can bring monster corpses back to life. If you see one in the area, try to kill it as soon as possible so you won't have to keep re-killing enemies you've already dispatched, unless that's what you want to do!
